Stephen Giles (Software Engineer) has devoted his career to designing and implementing computerized solutions for health care providers. His most recent projects included a smart-card based portable medical record for the National Institute of Health, and an innovative electronic medical record for long term care facilities. He remains, for the most part, agnostic about the benefits of technology but has achieved great results integrating open source solutions into legacy and proprietary environments. Steve has worked for both Fortune 500 companies and for stealth start-ups, has served as both a CTO and staff programmer, has worked as a software consultant on large teams in company-wide initiatives, and by himself, often exploring the newest technologies, in the basement. He strives to find or create solutions that are timely, simple and elegant, and is professionally most rewarded by the many projects he has worked on that remain in use today. (Steve is also responsible for the care of a rather improbable menagerie of animals including a wife and a smallish but genetically similar mammal, his baby daughter.)
